Come and experience African drumming and dancing at its finest. Ghana is well-known for its music, and the dancing that accompanies it. One can participate in these wonderful arts that have been performed for centuries. Learn how villages use “talking drums” to communicate within the village and between different villages—a technique that is still in use today. Learn some traditional songs, history and dance performed at out-doorings, weddings, funerals, festivals, etc.
Sample Itinerary
DAY 1
Arrival at Kotoka International Airport. Guests will be met by our tour guide then transported to the hotel.
DAY 2
Briefing by tour guide after breakfast. An Accra City tour will include the purchasing of drums by participants. After lunch at our local Country Kitchen, the day’s activities will take us to the Institute of Cultural Studies for our first lessons in drumming and dancing.
DAY 3
Day begins with second lessons in drumming and dancing at the University of Ghana, Legon. Lessons will be continued after lunch at Asanka Locals, where local dished are served. A return to the hotel will be followed by dinner at the cozy garden restaurant.
DAY 4
Travel to Aburi Botanical Gardens to continue lessons in drumming and also to relax and experience the large amount of indigenous plants/flora. This will be followed by lunch at the Garden Restaurant. We return to the hotel for a barbecue and some live music.
DAY 5
Visit the Accra Cultural Centre for more lessons in drumming. The afternoon break and picnic can be spent at one of Ghana’s numerous sunny beaches.
DAY 6
Travel to Cape Coast (the capital of the Central Region) with visits to several fishing villages and to some famous 16th century castles. A welcome barbecue by the best chefs in Cape Coast with tropical fruit drinks will be held in your honour at Kokodo (the house on the hill)
DAY 7
This day begins with a trip to the Kakum National Park (360 square Kilometers of natural rain forest and home to many rare birds, butterflies and monkeys. The program continues after lunch with a drumming session at the Oasis Beach Resort. The day’s activities will be climaxed with dinner and live music at the Kokodo Guest House.
DAY 8
We take a day off drumming and dancing and spend the day at the Anomabo Beach Resort. The rest of the evening can be spent relaxing at the Kokodo guest house for a barbecue or spending the evening at a night club.
DAY 9
Two hours workshop drumming and dancing at Oasis guest house in Cape Coast. The rest of the day will be spent at the Oasis Beach Resort. The evening will be spent at the Kokodo Guest house with a barbecue and live music.
DAY 10
We set of for Kumasi 250 km north of Cape Coast through Assin Manso. The day’s trip will take us to the Manhyia Palace, seat of the Ashanti Kingdom. The war museum is to be visited.
DAY 11
We visit the crafts villages of Bonwire (kente), Ahwiaa (carvings) and Ntonso (adinkra). After lunch, we continue our lessons in drumming and dancing at the Kumasi Cultural Centre for two hours. We return to the hotel for dinner.
DAY 12
Check out of hotel after breakfast to start our trip to Ada Foah, via Nkawkaw, Koforidua, Somanya, Afienya and Dawenya. We take a break en route for a picnic. We spend the rest of the day at the Manet Paradise Beach Resort or similar.
DAY 13
The day begins with a boat trip from Manet Paradise to through the islands or a walk to one of the village along the coast to socialize with natives. We trek back to the hotel after the morning’s activities for lunch. Drumming and dancing lessons continue after lunch. A buffet dinner at the resort will end the day’s activities.
DAY 14
We check out of the beach resort and head back for Accra. We will still have time for some last minute shopping, lunch before checking into airport for departure.
